NZMP has been making moves in three spaces: infant nutrition with SureStart, active nutrition with clear protein drinks and the launch of the company’s medical nutrition division. “We are the world leader in medical nutrition on the business to business side, and we are very keen to take the next steps,” says Hans Huistra. At FiE 2017 it presented products including a 14 percent protein product with appropriate viscosity to aid patients’ recovery during their stay in the hospital.

I'm here at the NMP stand joined by Hans Haustra.
Has been making further moves into the medical nutrition space.
Hans, would you be able to maybe introduce some of the concepts or projects you're working on with the company in this regard?
Before I get to the medical one briefly, I think for us it's more or less 3 plays here.
Today at FIE it is basically the infant at the Sure Start launch, amongst others, our beautiful Goss products.
There it is the active nutrition with fantastic, clear protein drinks.
But indeed, and that's to your question, my apologies, I take a little bit of time.
The fantastic launch of our medical nutrition division.
We are the world leader in medical nutrition in the business to business side, and we are very keen to take the next steps.
We're presenting today a fantastic 14% protein product.
Normally that would be like a brick.
Ours basically is viscosity just right to make sure that patients.
Yeah, really get the nutrition they need.
It shortens their stay in the hospital.
It aids their recovery, and it's really basically because of that dairy nutrition and especially from NZMP is the thing to have.
So it's going to be one of our big drivers for the near future.
Absolutely.
So that's really kind of going in for the aging population, children, who else.
Yeah, so what I said, basically those 3, so infant, yeah, always been a very strong point of Fonterra.
Sports, where we've invested over the years, and we are a very strong player with very innovative concepts on that as.
Now we add to that the medical one, which is both aimed at the medical, so hospitals, institutions, but also with the spin-off to the aging.
Basically we've done a lot of studies to show that if you make a better tasting, high protein drink, the actual usage of it goes up remarkably, and because of that, the protein intake and because of that, the health, and it's that simple.
You need to make a very good product which basically leads to compliance for patients that they actually finish their drinks.
And because of that, they recover quicker and with our beautiful NZMP protein you achieve exactly that.

So this first launch is a beverage.
Can we expect any other further products to come from that?
What we supply are the ingredients for the success of our customers.
So this is an example of a beverage.
We have launched the same proteins also in yogurt concepts.
It is of course available in a powder states as , so to be added to smoothies and those kinds of concepts, but it is our versatility on that side.
It is also where our customers like to make the difference.
What we bring to them are solutions.
