06 Sep 2024 --- In 2023, 13.5% of US households (18 million households) were food insecure “at least sometime during the year,” according to the 2023 Household Food Security in the US report by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). These households did not have access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all members. This is an increase of almost 5.5% from the 2022 level (12.8%). The USDA estimates that 47.4 million people lived in food-insecure households in 2023, compared to 33.8 million people two years earlier.
