Cognis Launches Xangold 8% Natural Lutein Esters in Water Dispersible Powder
Products containing Xangold are allowed a natural label claim since the lutein esters are obtained from marigold flowers using a mild extraction process.
08/07/08 Cognis Nutrition & Health is has launched Xangold 8% WDP, kosher, natural lutein esters in a water-dispersible powder. Making its debut at the IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo in New Orleans, this new ingredient is ideal for the burgeoning market of “Beauty from Within” products. The new Xangold 8% WDP can be used for quick blending into food and beverage formulations and in two-piece capsules. The entire portfolio of Xangold ingredients is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) for a wide spectrum of food categories.
“Xangold will appeal to formulators in search of a natural ingredient with superior bioavailability and stability,” said Rob Bailey, Marketing Manager, Cognis Nutrition & Health. He explained that while marketers may be more familiar with its eye health benefits, compelling scientific research supports the skin-protective benefits of lutein esters. “Consumers want skincare products that deliver beauty benefits through nutrition fueling one of the hottest trends in the market. Lutein is a powerful beauty booster and Cognis is working diligently with our customers so this message resonates with consumers,” Bailey pointed out.
Based on scientific evidence, lutein:
* Helps improve skin hydration and elasticity
* Improves skin moisture
* Improves the skin’s natural ability to protect itself from sun exposure
* Helps to maintain skin’s healthy look and feel
Products containing Xangold are allowed a natural label claim since the lutein esters are obtained from marigold flowers using a mild extraction process.
Xangold natural lutein esters are extracted from marigold flowers that are grown specifically for Cognis. Available in an oil suspension, micro-encapsulated and free-flowing powder, Xangold is suitable for a variety of applications in foods and nutritional supplements. Xangold was the first source of lutein to complete the GRAS notification process in January 2003. Research shows lutein esters are hydrolyzed and free lutein is readily absorbed.
