Brenntag to distribute Cargill’s EpiCor postbiotic offering throughout most of Europe
01 Jul 2024 --- Cargill enters into an exclusive distribution partnership with Brenntag for the company’s EpiCor postbiotic ingredient. The agreement covers most of Europe, including Central and Eastern Europe, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Ukraine, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
“We are delighted to increase the scope of our alliance with Cargill on an exclusive basis for EpiCor, a leading postbiotic nutrition and dietary product,” says Frank Haven, the president of Brenntag specialties nutrition EMEA.
“To the very important and intensely growing Nutritional Health, we bring the knowledge, infrastructure and creative innovation capabilities of Brenntag’s food and nutrition team together with the overarching expertise of Cargill.”
Potent postbiotic
According to Cargill, the EpiCor postbiotic has been shown to help support immune and gut health functions and can be easily formulated into dietary and nutritional supplements, such as functional gummies.
The ingredient is derived from a proprietary fermentation of baker’s yeast, also known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The process creates a nutritious whole food, which contains metabolites, proteins, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, polyphenols, fibers and polysaccharides.
ISAPP approved
Additionally, EpiCor also meets the newly released consensus definition of a postbiotic, as put forth by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP), meaning that EpiCor is a preparation of inanimate microorganisms and components that confers a health benefit on the host.
In the case of EpiCor, it may support immune and gut health functions, as Cargill says has been substantiated in over a dozen published studies.
“We look forward to developing and broadening relationships with our existing and new customers with this new offer of EpiCor,” concludes Willem van Dam, the director of industry market management at Brenntag specialties nutrition EMEA. “This will meet the current needs of our customers as well as new product requirements and can generate new product development projects.”
