Webinar preview: Novonesis combines consumer and research insights for gut health advances
Amid a booming gut health space, Novonesis will examine market trends, consumer insights and clinically studied probiotics in an upcoming webinar. Consumers increasingly recognize the importance of the gut microbiome beyond digestive health, with scientific advances supporting probiotics’ impact on immunity and mental well-being.
Ahead of the webinar, “From discomfort to wellness: Consumer voices and probiotic science in gut health,” Nutrition Insight meets expert speakers from the session: Dr. Kirsten Vaever Jokumsen, Global Commercial Industry Manager for Gut and Mental Health; Dalia Fouad, Head of Global Insights, Human Health at Novonesis; and Louis Koeninger, global scientific adviser for Gut and Mental Health.
The Novonesis experts will demonstrate how consumer insights paired with science can develop relevant and effective solutions that consumers trust.
“Gut health is front and center in today’s wellness revolution — from consumers to scientists, everyone is talking about the gut,” says Vaever Jokumsen.
“We will break down gut health from a consumer and science lens like never before. There will be a deep dive into Novonesis’ proprietary research done via social listening, and we will also be double-clicking on the science behind our solutions for specific gastrointestinal issues important to these consumers.”
AI-powered consumer insights
The speakers underscore that the webinar will provide more insights into gut health from the consumer’s perspective. They will explore outcomes from Novonesis’ proprietary research, including two research angles — Social Intelligence Analytics and qualitative insights — to discover the latest online trends, unmet needs and what consumers truly want in gut wellness solutions.
“Consumers face a range of health challenges linked to gut discomfort, each impacting their lives in unique ways,” details Fouad.
“As a result, they seek supplements that address these specific concerns, offering targeted benefits to support their health goals. This creates a strong demand for personalized supplement recommendations that cater to individual needs.”
Gut health is vital to consumers for overall well-being. For example, Innova Market Insights data indicates that 22% of global consumers “take gut or digestive health supplements on a regular basis.” They recognize the benefits probiotics offer, ranking gut and digestive health as the leading health benefits linked to these products.
During the webinar, the Novonesis team will present consumer insights on gut health and delve into the science behind its solutions.Gut health solutions
Koeninger will present scientific evidence on the company’s solutions.
“A comprehensive range of solutions, including well-established probiotics such as LGG and BB-12 and our latest innovations like Clepius. Most importantly, all the probiotic solutions presented are clinically studied and supported by science.”
Health Canada approved two health claims for Clepius L. plantarum earlier this year. With the approval, Clepius became the first probiotic in Canada recognized for offering stress relief alongside gut health benefits.
In addition, the speakers will delve into the science behind its solutions for issues such as upset stomachs, irregularities and bloating.
“We will be sharing about Novonesis solutions for specific gastrointestinal issues, which are important to these consumers, featuring not only the world’s most documented probiotic strain LGG but also BB-12, DDS-1, LA-5 and Clepius,” details Koeninger.
Beyond the gut
Consumers increasingly expect probiotics to offer health benefits beyond digestive health, such as immune support or mood health. Fouad notes that the “connection between the gut-brain axis and mental wellness has received considerable attention, opening new avenues for supplements.”
According to Innova Market Insights data, supplement launches supporting the gut-brain axis increased by 25% CAGR from April 2019 to March 2024. The use of probiotic ingredients in such supplements is also gaining traction, with the market researcher indicating a 22% average annual growth in probiotic ingredients used in supplements with a digestive and brain health claim in the same time frame.
Expanded research into the health benefits of probiotics and gut health products supports product innovations. Recently, scientists reviewed studies using functional MRI methodologies on probiotics’ effects on mental well-being through the gut. They found promising results but also called for more rigorous research.
In earlier webinars, Novonesis highlighted the additional health benefits of its probiotics. For example, the company underscored the potential of biotics for mental health, “psychobiotics,” which target the gut-brain axis.
